What is Landcare?
Landcare brings the community together:
- to address environmental problems,
- to appreciate the local natural landscape,
- to assist in promoting sustainable agricultural production,
- to promote community cohesion and belonging through working and sharing together.
What do members of Newham Landcare actually do?
- Have fun and get a sense of satisfaction through co-operative participation and achievement.
- Learn about local plants and wildlife; recognise what to keep and what to get rid of.
- Understand about water catchments and healthy streams, and work to improve our local creeks.
- Get to know neighbours by working together and talking about the environment and other issues of common interest.
- Provide an official and insured body to apply for funds for major and minor projects (eg the Biolink, roadside weed control, revegetation).
- Have events and meetings with invited experts to enhance knowledge.
- Have social gatherings and working bees to do things such as:
- Help clear weed infestation
- Plant out designated areas
- Endeavour to conserve endangered flora & fauna
- Share a meal and good company.
The committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month (February to December) between 7.30 – 9pm in Newham Hall
All members are welcome to attend the Committee meetings to become more involved or raise specific matters.
Please advise a committee member if you wish to attend. Meetings start and finish on time … and we enjoy them!
