About Us

Newham & District Landcare Group was started in May 2004 by Jim Sansom.

Major goals relate to :

  • protection and enhancement of remnant vegetation and revegetating areas that will provide links between remnants. This encompasses pest plant and animal control, rehabilitation of waterways and roadside activities.

  • development of Newham community through shared involvement in activities that enhance our environment in the broadest sense. This encompasses involvement with Newham Primary school and the Newham Garden Club.

New Pest Animal Coordinator role for NDLG. Sue Barker has volunteered for this following the departure of John Lucock. Sue will work on enabling members to prepare pest animal management plans for their properties and coordinate community responses to pest animals. She may be contacted by phone - 5427 0805.

Winter 2017 newsletter published 3/9/17. Congratulations to Penny Roberts for being commended in the Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award. The 2017 Victorian Landcare Awards ceremony was at Government House on September 1 - photo on p13.

After hearing our presentation on Frogs on 23 September, you may like to get involved in the Frog Census, a community frog monitoring program. The data collected through the program is used to help manage Melbourne and nearby regions frog populations and raises awareness of waterway health issues.
